David Roberts PainterThough he loved the rhythm and feel of it, though all the world was his subject - David Roberts quit painting in Kindergarten. Later, he trained as an actor at Drama Centre, London. Then he spent time in graduate school studying world religions and philosophy. Next came many happy years as a journalist and traveller: the Middle East, Europe, Africa, North America. For no apparent reason in 2006 David Roberts quit nearly everything - and started to paint: Ex Nihilo. Since then his paintings have sold to collectors all over the USA, Canada, and Europe. Artist statement As a fulltime painter I resist any single style or genre. To me, it's all about storytelling. I am just a painter who is focused on getting better at the craft of painting. If someone else calls it art, then that's great. I'm not so much interested in subject. What attracts me is composition; light, dark, colours, shapes, forms. I focus on these elements to try to best tell the story that requires telling in each painting. You realize when you've made a good painting that it's not so much the subject, it's not so much the colours - it's composition, rhythm, and story. |
