Leon Perwarchuk PainterLeon is a retired educator with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Manitoba. Upon graduating, he began teaching Art and had, for over twenty five years, taught Advertising Art and Graphic Design. For a number of years he carved in wood, produced wood cut prints and re-acquainted himself with graphite drawing. However, he has since been drawn back to earlier roots and his preference for painting in oils on canvas. Born in rural Manitoba, his early years were spent growing up and working on the farm. In later years, while teaching, he summered with his family at their lakeside cottage in the Lake of the Woods area of Northwestern Ontario. Those years, together with a passion for hunting, fishing and the outdoors, fostered in him a life long affair with the prairies and the boreal forest. Painting for his own pleasure, his work reflects the relationships he sees and feels between the land, sky, rock, forest and water. Through his use of colour and brush he shows us nature at once familiar yet evocative. |
