Liliane Lear Painter, Vraifil Designer using the Computer

I design what is a simple image but with several possibilities. I then outline this idea onto canvas. It is in the painting process that the idea evolves towards the final result. I find it very stimulating and fun to watch this progress, even if it sometimes takes a long time to complete.

Strangely enough, staring for too long at one image causes me to lose sight of it. For this reason, I find it necessary to work on about four at one time. Each image slowly acquires a distinct personality and it takes a moment to become reacquainted after switching canvases. The fact that my images usually contain a human face might explain this.

The images represented in thread (vraifil) are sometimes interpretations of works I have already rendered in oil paint. Otherwise, evolution of the subject matter is tricky here; it really has to happen during the designing. The stitch used is my version of the basic ‘stem stitch’ throughout.
